The world has a fascination with celebrities and celebrity style. From the Royal Family in Great Britain, to Hollywood movie stars, to chart-topping divas and super models, everyone wants to look and dress like a celebrity (even if we can't always afford it!).
All this attention puts a lot of pressure on celebrities and others in the fashion limelight. Every move they make is photographed by paparazzis and then analyzed by a host of critics, even trips to the supermarket or the gas station. And those annual movie and music award events are fashion showcases where every celebrity is scrutinized for their dress, hair style, makeup, and anything else that's visible to the cameras.
One almost feels sorry for the poor celeb, until of course you take into account the fact that these glittering people are rich, famous, and living the lives that most of us could only dream of living.
There's a reason why celebrities are always on the cutting edge of the fashion world -- top designers know that if a celeb is seen wearing their designs, then sales (and big money) are sure to follow. That's why many top celebs are given free designer clothes to wear in public, with the hope that the free publicity will spur sales and new orders for those clothes. We've all seen sports stars doing the same thing when they wear a particular brand of shoe or cap during a media interview.
In this way celebrities help to set fashion trends, just like models at fashion shows. In fact they're probably more influential, because we tend to pay more attention to what our favorite actress or singer is wearing than what an anonymous model at a Paris or Milan fashion show has on.
But celebrities don't always take the best fashion advice or wear attractive outfits. We'll all seen those "worst dressed" lists with photos of famous celebs wearing awful get-ups that the rest of us wouldn't be caught dead wearing. (Of course when we pull a fashion faux pas nobody notices anyway, except maybe our husband or the cat) .
